My Therapeutic Approach
I utilize a variety of approaches in my counseling practice. My approach with each child or family is informed through my assessment process and understanding of what the issues are, the age and cognitive and developmental level of the child, and what style and method of therapy will most resonate with my client.
I utilize cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) throughout the counseling process. My counseling office lends itself to a variety of exploration with the use of sandtray, play therapy, bibliography (writing and journaling), and the visual arts through drawing, painting, and sculpture with clay.
The expressive arts provide a visual language for words that might be too painful to speak, or that a child does not have the words to articulate.
Having received training through Yoga Calm for children, and mindfulness training, I also incorporate the current neuroscience and research that supports healing practices. I help children learn how to self-regulate through breathing practices to calm their minds and bodies.
